If you have recently heard the wonderful news that you will become a mother, or the date of the magical event is approaching, it is good to know how best to take care of your teeth and feel as comfortable as possible during this period. Here are some recommendations from us.

In the first quarter:
Use a soft brush and natural toothpaste to avoid morning sickness.
Watch your gums and take timely action if you notice inflammation (gingivitis), which often develops during pregnancy.

In the second quarter:
Include plenty of vitamin C, calcium and vitamin B12 in your diet. Watch out for the formation of granulomas – small temporary swellings in the mouth and lips. If you experience anything like this, contact your dentist.

In the third quarter:
Avoid serious dental treatment during the last 6 weeks of pregnancy, except in cases of extreme urgency.
Be strongly committed to dental care at home – regular brushing and flossing.

During breastfeeding:
If local anesthesia and / or X-rays are needed for treatment, consult your dentist for the best solution. In principle, these procedures are considered safe during this period.
If you still have old amalgam (silver) fillings, consider replacing them with photopolymer ones, as they can lead to changes in the composition of breast milk.
As soon as the baby’s first teeth appear, start cleaning them with a soft brush and baby toothpaste to prevent caries.

To feel calm about the health of your smile, it is good to make regular visits to the dentist. This will reduce the likelihood of deteriorating tooth quality.
